Those hoping to ascend Barbara, especially since she’s recruited for free, will need the following items and Mora.

Leveling Materials

Like every other character, Barbara needs quite a bit of Mora and EXP to reach level 90. Here’s how much is needed between each ascension:

Barbara Ascension Items

Barbara is a Hydro character, meaning she’ll use Varunada Lazurite in her ascension. Here’s everything needed, divided by ascension levels and then totalled up:

Gemstones - Where to Find Varunada Lazurite

There aren’t very many Hydro characters in Genshin Impact, meaning there are fewer to split Varunada Lazurite amongst. However, it’s also only dropped by a few bosses, meaning it’s not as easy to come across as some of the other elemental gems.

Enemy Drop - Where to Find Samachurl Scrolls

Samachurls are the shamans of Hilichurl tribes, and they’ll drop strange mystical scrolls when defeated. Barbara uses these scrolls for both her ascension and her talent upgrades.

Samachurls are found basically everywhere, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to farm their drops. However, keep in mind that higher level Samachurls are needed for better drops:

Boss Drop - How to Get Cleansing Hearts

A Cleansing Heart is one of the drops from Rhodeia of Loch, the Oceanid found north of Qingce Village. These items can be obtained by defeating the boss and paying the Original Resin cost to retrieve the rewards.

In this boss fight, the Oceanid is not attacked directly. Instead, the player must defeat the Hydro Mimics that she summons. These Mimics are immune to Hydro damage, so be sure to use characters other than Barbara in this fight.

Local Specialty - Where to Find Philanemo Mushrooms

These strange mushrooms are found in Mondstadt’s three major population centers, the city, Dawn Winery, and Springvale. They’ll grow under eaves, on the sides of tall buildings, and even on trees.

Though they can’t be grown in the Serenitea Pot like some other regional specialties, Philanemo Mushrooms can be purchased. Chloris, the wandering vendor who can be found on the path north of Windrise, will sell Philanemo Mushrooms. She stocks five of them and sells them for 1,000 Mora each. She’ll restock them every three days.

Barbara Talent Materials

Despite being an idol whose entire character motif focuses on music, Barbara surprisingly doesn’t use the Ballad talent series. Instead, she’ll make use of the Freedom series for her talents. Here’s everything she needs:

Talent Books - Freedom

The Freedom series is one of the Mondstadt talent book series. They can be farmed from the Forsaken Rift domain on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Trounce Materials - Where to Get Ring of Boreas

The weekly trounce drop that Barbara’s talents require is the Ring of Boreas. This is obtained by defeating Andrius in Wolvendom during the Wolf of the North challenge and paying the Resin price.

How to Get Crowns of Insight

Character talents max out at level 10, and they’ll need a Crown of Insight to go from level 9 to level 10. These rare items can be obtained during special events. A handful of them can also be earned by making offerings to the Sacred Sakura on Narukami Island and the Frostbearing Tree on Dragonspine.
